“That which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.”
John 1:3
Meetings are held quarterly to set the year’s calendar of events which include fun opportunities for church members and those from the community at large to join together in volunteering their time, talents, and energy to worthy causes.
These events include hosting two Bake Sales to coincide with the July 4 and Thanksgiving holidays and two enormous–and well attended—Rummage Sales (spring and fall). Fellowship also sponsors special sales events for SERRV International, which fights global poverty through fair and ethical trade, supporting over 8,000 artisans and farmers annually by selling the handicrafts and foods they produce.
In addition, Fellowship volunteers are responsible for organizing and hosting Coffee Hour following each worship service; Free Community Meals several times a year; a Men’s Breakfast held monthly through the winter months; and Christmas Caroling at Dorset Village’s annual Tree Lighting, followed by a PotLuck Dinner at the Church.
The Dorset Quilters comprise eight to ten people (men and women) who meet on Tuesdays from October to April to design and make a quilt that is raffled off in the summer to support Fellowship projects. While the finished quilt is their visible accomplishment, the fellowship enjoyed around creating it is considered to be extremely important. Anyone interested in participating is welcome to join them at any time.
Sixty percent of the proceeds from these events are dedicated to Dorset Church operating costs. Of the remainder, some is reserved to underwrite Fellowship activities, with about $10,000 available to be distributed to local missions, including food cupboards, fire departments, and the Kids Summer Lunch Program. Fellowship has also supported other causes, like a UCC church devastated by floods in California or a local church’s struggle to strengthen its sanctuary. The Fellowship Board is ready to give where there is a need.
