The Dorset Church offers several opportunities for educational and spiritual growth for adults. Six to seven times a year on the last Sunday of the month, guest speakers give presentations and lead discussions on a variety of topics during Second Hour. Topics have included a talk on recycling with the Bennington County Solid Waste Allowance; a discussion on Foster Care with the Vermont Department of Children and Families; learning the ‘Inflow and Outflow of Blessings and Service’; Scams/Sessions 1 and 2 by Elliott Greenblott of AARP; and a presentation by local physical therapist Kelly Gaiotti on her medical mission trip to Antigua, Guatemala.
Bible Study at the Dorset Church is offered via Zoom during the months of January and February so participants can avoid driving at night. The group discussions include the Bible and other books addressing topics such as how the Bible was written, how to interpret its many modes of expression, including history, songs, poems, prophetic writings, and contradictions. To participate, email [email protected] for an invitation to the next Zoom event. Come join us.
There are two to three Book Studies each year. The group has read and discussed The Book of Joy: Conversations with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama; How to Know a Person by David Brooks; and A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle.
There are also Special Seminars planned through our Dorset Church Counseling Center. Topics include strengthening relationships for married couples, and making plans for your family including financial planning, medical care, end-of-life directives, and funerals.
